Microsoft exclusive Gears 5 may have launched to record-breaking commerical success and rave reviews this September, but some fans are quickly souring over the game. Specifically, they’re unhappy about its microtransactions - enough so that the head of developer The Coalition has responded to irate fans over Twitter. Gears 5 includes both single-player and three-player local split-screen or online co-op gaming, and it’s mainly the multiplayer side of things that are getting the negative attention right now....

Gears 5 was released a little less than a week ago to widespread acclaim and, according to Microsoft, has dominated in sales and has become this generation’s biggest game launch for Xbox Game Studios. The sixth entry in the core Gears of War franchise, Gears 5 met great reception for its tight gameplay mechanics, polished presentation, and surprisingly deep story. Up until its launch, Gears 5 had been previewed many times and was being advertised as this Holiday season’s biggest Xbox game....

The Coalition has announced it’s removing the Map Builder mode from Gears 5 in its latest title update. The news was announced via the game’s official Twitter account as a PSA last night. While not going into too much detail, the team claimed the move would allow them to “focus on future projects”. The two achievements tied to the game will be unlocked for all players, and there’ll be rewards for those that have....

Microsoft just made a boo boo by posting the box cover art for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on the official Xbox site. We already knew it was coming to the Xbox 360 but we didn’t know it was going to support the Kinect. There goes one E3 surprise announcement. Not even two weeks ago we reported that Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was again delayed, this time to early 2012 for added development time and to avoid the overly competitive fall 2011 release schedule....

A new developer video for God of War Ragnarok dives into the story and gives an excellent recap of God of War 2018. The video, titled Shaping the Story, also gives an idea of what the teams went through when COVID hit and how that reshaped the development. However, senior producer Ariel Angelotti makes it clear that regardless of the changes that had to be made to adhere to COVID guidelines, saying “we avoided compromising the story that we were trying to tell, as a result of the pandemic and these limitations that we had to deal with....

South Korean game developer Shift Up and publisher Level Infinite released a new trailer of the upcoming mobile game Goddess of Victory: NIKKE. The video focuses on showing some of the characters that we’ll be able to unlock (via gacha, obviously) in the game, and provides a quick look at how they play on the battlefield, promising high quality graphics and controls that are simple and easy to master. Today Nippon Ichi Software released a new trailer of the upcoming RTS remaster GrimGrimoire OnceMore. The trailer focuses on Alchemy, one of the kinds of magic available in the game, allowing you to summon different familiars to do your bidding. We get to see the Blob, the Gargoyle, the Golem, the Homunculus, and the Chimera, showing the full range of familiars available to summon and fight when using Alchemy runes....

Rockstar is investigating an issue currently affecting the “graphical quality” of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Grand Theft Auto 5, the developer has said. Issues with the game’s graphics were discovered following the release of title update 1.08 last week, with players reporting ‘downgraded’ visual effects, including changes made to collisions, parallax occlusion and texture filtering. Some believed that the changes may have been intended to improve performance, but in an update on the developer’s website Rockstar confirmed that it was “investigating a fix”....

This time around players can once again participate in the Adversary Mode known as Best vs. Slasher, getting a cool 2x reward bonus when playing it to boot. Freemode events and challenges also get a nice boost, as you’ll be able to rake in 3x the rewards while playing them this week....

The long-awaited Diamond Casino and Resort update for Grand Theft Auto Online won’t let players in more than 50 countries access the in-game gambling features due to local laws. Players have collaborated on Reddit (via PCGamer) to list the countries that restrict the new update, which include China, Greece, Iceland, North Korea and Poland. Frustration is rife among the commenters, because some have waited years for the iconic casino to be fully functional....

FreeStyle Games has defended its decision to integrate microtransactions into Guitar Hero Live, explaining that it simply wanted to “provide a lot of variety” and “give people choice” over the way they accessed new music. The new game, which goes on sale in the UK this Friday, ships with 42 songs on-disc and a further 200+ through an online music network called Guitar Hero TV. But players will never actually be able to own the additional songs available on GHTV, with FreeStyle abandoning Guitar Hero’s traditional DLC model for a method that lets players stream tracks at random for free, or play individual tracks on-demand by spending an in-game currency known as ‘Play’ tokens....

Battlefield 2042 is the next entry in the Battlefield franchise, releasing on November 19, but the beta is right around the corner. Pre-loading for the beta began today, October 5, for both early access and open beta players. If you have pre-ordered the game, or you are an EA Play member, you can hop into the early access beta on October 6 to 7. Then, the open beta will start on October 8 to 9....

Iceberg Interactive has announced a new title for 2018 from Belgium developer Cybernetic Walrus called Antigraviator which they are calling “the fastest racing game ever made”. Set in the year 2210, racing has evolved and this anti-gravity racer will have players racing at breakneck speeds using traps, power-ups and boosts to reach the finish line first. The game will come with three gameplay modes and four different worlds each with four tracks....

IO Interactive and Warner Bros. have announced details on Hitman 2’s swanky Collector’s Edition, which features an Agent 47 rubber duck for reasons we cannot possibly fathom. But you know what? It’s actually looks kinda cool. Hitman 2: Collection’s Edition is a GameStop-exclusive in North America and will be available at GAME in the UK, as expected. So what do you get?
