On Sunday, HBO aired the last episode in the final season of the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-starring Ballers, which included a season-long League of Legends esports plot to cap off two of its characters’ story arcs. During the climactic LoL Summer Invitational tournament, the Levitating Rhinos—the actual name used by a team made up of series regular Vernon Littlefield (played by Donovan Carter), a friend of his, three once-banned League esports misfits, and Russell Brand for some reason—face off against the storied Team Liquid, and the current LCS Summer champs ultimately lose a best of three match to the young upstarts....

It’s being reported that Death Stranding director Hideo Kojima and Xbox may be one step closer to working on what could wind up to be a future game from the Metal Gear Solid creator. According to VentureBeat, the two have signed a ‘letter of intent’ that says the two parties intend to work out the details on a publishing agreement for an as-yet-unannounced Xbox game. Citing “sources familiar with the matter” VentureBeat say while this isn’t a guarantee of such a game, it does mean that a partnership is on the table as lawyers for both sides work out the finer details....

Epic Games has launched Chapter 2, Season 8 for its battle royal smash Fortnite, entitled Cubed. In the universe of Fortnite, the Aliens from last season’s Invasion event have seemingly been vanquished. However, a new deadly and more sinister foe has taken their place in the form of sentient Cubes. These Cubes are appearing around the game’s map and creating Sideway Anomalies at POIs. Stepping through one will take you to Sideways Zones, where you’ll be attacked by waves of Cube Monsters....

Frictional Games is trailing breadcrumbs to tease its newest game, and eagle-eyed enthusiasts are ankle-deep in the ARG (via Eurogamer). The developer’s official website shows a pulsating… thing in the centre of the site. It’s got little tendrils, and seems to be growing in size. Unsettling stuff, but the critter is shrouded in mystery for the time being. Frictional Games fans are undeterred, and they believe the developer has begun an alternate reality game—or ARG—to tease its newest game....

Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate is set to be an even more godlike version of the original. As teased during the initial announcement, Koei Tecmo has now uploaded a new trailer showing off “Gaia,” the Earth Mother Goddess in action. UK retailer GAME has acquired a minority stake in augmented reality software company Ads Reality Limited, a UK-based developer that helped create the firm’s ‘Scan It’ technology. As part of the agreement, Ads Reality has “agreed to an 18 month global exclusivity arrangement for all games products and, in the UK, all entertainment products”. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. “Partnering with small but innovative companies and championing new technologies to give our customers the best possible omni-channel experience is core to our strategy,” said GAME Digital’s chief technology offers Andy Grainger....

Free-to-play MMO Genshin Impact will be landing on the PlayStation 5 alongside its 1.5 Beneath the Light of Jadeite update on April 28, it’s been announced.
