Google has announced that it is to open a new studio based in California, and has already snapped up a top talent to lead it in the form of Shannon Studstill, who was previously head of God of War studio Sony Santa Monica. In a press release announcing the new studio (as spotted by VG24/7) Google’s Jade Raymond said that ‘The new Playa Vista studio will focus on delivering exclusive games, using new gameplay mechanics, creative ways to play together and unique interaction models that we’re just starting to explore....

A new Gran Turismo movie was revealed as part of Sony’s showcase at this year’s edition of CES. The upcoming motion picture will be directed by Neill Blomkamp and stars notable actors such as Orlando Bloom as well as David Harbour. Based on its initial description, the Gran Turismo movie will be an adaptation of Jann Mardenborough’s real life story. Halo Wars 2 will have a second beta test “closer to launch”, a Microsoft representative has confirmed to GameSpot. The beta will include a new mode, the rep says, and will be available on both Xbox One and PC. A date for it has yet to be confirmed. 15 minutes of Rise of the Tomb Raider footage has been released by Crystal Dynamics. This week Sony announced the release date and the hefty price tag of its new virtual reality headset, the PlayStation VR2. As a dedicated helmet-head, I figured that Sony would be aiming for a price point somewhere around that of a PS5 so the figures it quoted as pre-order prices didn’t shock me too much. I’ve gone hands-on with the PSVR 2 in the past, so I know that it’s a high quality piece of kit and, with the addition of the Sense controllers in the package, that lofty price seemed about right to me....

Developer Squanch Games has declared that upcoming offbeat bounty hunting sci-fi shooter High on Life will arrive on October 25.
