Gears 5 launches its fifth Operation update today called Operation 5: Hollow Storm, bringing significant changes including five new maps and the ability to select a character independently from their class. New maps for this update include Nexus, Regency and River as well as two classic maps from Gears past in long-time fan favourites Clocktower and Gridlock. New ranked quit penalties are also being introduced where any player who leaves early will be forced to complete a number of Quickplay Versus matches before returning to Ranked....
The Coalition has announced that Gears 5 Ultimate Edition players will be compensated for the problematic early access launch, with five days of XP boost and 600 Scrap. Over the weekend, Gears 5 was plagued with significant server issues. All multiplayer modes were afflicted with extended matchmaking times and continual disconnection, kicking players and affecting displays. It even caused problems with the single-player Campaign, so those who had waited so long for the highly-anticipated installment, well, waited longer than planned....

Blizzard fans get ready to geek out. Warcraft, the movie based on the World of Warcraft video games, will be shown off for the first time at Comic-Con San Diego, Legendary has announced. A July 11 panel hosted by Nerdist’s Chris Hardwick will feature footage and present cast members from Warcraft, Crimson Peak and Krampus. A member of the development team behind Sony Santa Monica’s 2018 reboot of God of War has jumped ship to work with The Initiative, a secretive Southern California development studio working on new projects as part of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios division. Erik Jakobsen, whose work includes environmental design on God of War: Ascension and the series’ PS4 debut during his time at Sony Santa Monica, joined the team at The Initiative this month....

Gotham Knights at last has a release date. The game that was featured in my most anticipated games of next year list (twice!) will be available on October 25. It feels appropriate to come out just before Halloween, considering the theme of the game. Actually, it might be more appropriate if the game adapted The Long Halloween, but Batman fans can’t be beggars. No More Heroes developer Grasshopper Manufacture has begun teasing its next project. While you don’t know anything about the mysterious new game, a tease at BelieveInTheInternet.com shows what appear to be vibrating shards of glass (pictured above) gradually moving together to form… something. The website’s Twitter account, meanwhile, shows the shards progress over the last six days, along with the hashtag #grasshoppermanufacture0506, which could point towards a reveal date. Various posts on Facebook drop hints at what’s to come, too....
