Hearthstone pro Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai reflected on the statement he made in support of Hong Kong protesters while interviewed during a Grandmasters tournament, and he said it was a “must-do thing.” (via Kotaku). Epic Games has today just finished updating their immensely popular build-and-shoot-em-up Fortnite with the latest patch, headlined by a new feature and a new consumable for the game’s free-to-play Battle Royale mode. As detailed in the patch notes, the Season Shop adds the ability to purchase items for your Battle Royale character that as the name suggests will change every Season. The first lot of items include an Arial Assault One Glider and Arial Assault Trooper One outfit available to purchase at levels 5 and 15 and a Renegade Raider outfit and the Raider’s Revenge pickaxe at levels 20 and 35....

Epic Games could be faced with a class action lawsuit based on Fortnite’s addictive properties that cause young teenagers and children to become dependent on playing the battle royale (via PC Gamer). The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has reported that the legal firm Calex Légal has applied for authorisation to enact a class action lawsuit against Epic Games. The legal notice was filed on behalf of the parents of the children affected by addiction to Fortnite....

Regular updates to Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 1 have kept the season feeling fresh. With the introduction of Klombos monsters and the addition of pizza, there’s something for every player to enjoy. Fullbright’s next game, Open Roads, was revealed in December last year. The indie developer was behind the hit game, Gone Home, a narrative adventure that, as it unfolded, presented a story in which situations were more than they seemed beneath the surface. Borderlands developer Gearbox Software has opened a new studio in Quebec City, Canada, to help develop a new “1st Person Action Game”. Gearbox Studio Quebec currently has 16 openings on its website, including one for a lead game designer on the secret action game. It isn’t clear from the description whether the studio will be leading development on the title, or assisting Gearbox’s main Texas-based studio. Gearbox is currently working on next year’s competitive first-person shooter Battleborn and a new entry in the Borderlands franchise....

The Coalition has revealed its multiplayer maps for Gears 5, and has moved the game’s early access date, as announced in its ‘What’s Up’ update post. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers and those who bought the Ultimate Editions of Gears 5 will be able to access the game a little bit earlier, at 9.00pm local time on September 5. In addition, the game can be pre-loaded on all platforms for the especially keen beans....

Rumour has it a Gears of War remastered collection may be in the works. Though not remotely confirmed - so just take this with the proverbial bucket of salt for now until we’re told anything more conclusive - journalist and podcaster Nick Baker said on the Xbox Era podcast that Microsoft’s first-party shooter franchise may be getting the “Master Chief Collection-type treatment”.
