The US Federal Trade Commission reportedly looks to be leaning towards an approval of Microsoft’s $68.7bn Activision Blizzard takeover. Previously, the FTC’s involvement in the deal had signalled a headache for Microsoft, which is facing regulatory approval around the world, and close scrutiny here in the UK. A lawsuit looked imminent - potentially blocking the acquisition, or carving out major concessions. However, a fresh report by the New York Post into the FTC panel set to decide the deal’s fate suggests the trade body is now looking more likely to let it pass....

The full soundtrack for the upcoming NBA 2K16 has been revealed. The next instalment in 2K’s basketball sim, which will feature a career mode helmed by famed director Spike Lee, will also feature a curated setlist from producers including DJ Khaled, DJ Mustard and DJ Premier. Wired Productions and developer Caged Element have announced that their futuristic racer GRIP will release on PC this year via Steam following an extensive period in Early Access. Heavily inspired by the late nineties racer Rollcage, this Unreal Engine 4 release features “gravity-defying physics alongside a bristling arsenal of outlandish weapons”. Stunts, tricks, using the destructible environments, and utilising every drivable surface possible is the key to racing success. “As long-standing fans of Rollcage and the combat racing genre, we’re delighted to sign GRIP and to build our partnership with the incredible team at Caged Element,” said Leo Zullo, Managing Director at Wired Productions....

It’s been six years since Galactic Civilizations III launched, and fans have no doubt been anxiously awaiting news of a follow-up. Today, Stardock announced that its successor, Galactic Civilizations IV, is already in active development. Not only is the team working on it as you read this, but the game will have an Alpha test available this summer. There’s no firm release window yet, but the game is set to drop sometime in 2022, so there’s a bit of a wait ahead of us....

GameStop’s fall from grace has been widely documented in recent times, with jobs cut at gaming publication Game Informer and falling profits during the 2019 holiday season. Electronic Arts is set to strip Ghost Games of its Need for Speed development duty. In its place, EA will hand responsibility for the racing franchise back to Criterion Games, as stated in an interview with gamesindustry.biz. Criterion Games is best known for its work on the Burnout series but it’s made contributions to Need for Speed, too. Both 2010’s Hot Pursuit and 2012’s Most Wanted remake were handled by Criterion Games....

Big changes are coming to BIG Clan’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team today as we see famed in-game leader Fatih “gob b” Dayik retire from professional play. More roster moves come their way as Denis “denis” Howell is placed on the bench, while Owen “smooya” Butterfield and Johannes “nex” Maget will be returning to the active lineup. Most of these changes are set to take immediate effect, though Nikola “LEGIJA” Ninić will play as a stand-in until Maget fully recovers from a previous injury....

The recent documentary Hunt for the Skinwalker chronicles disturbing paranormal occurrences that allegedly took place on a remote ranch in the Uintah Valley of Utah. A book of the same name, which covered the results of an extensive scientific investigation of the ranch, inspired the movie. However, the documentary further reveals that the Department of Defense primarily funded the study. In essence, this was the real X-Files. The 2005 book Hunt for the Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Remote Ranch in Utah was co-authored by Las Vegas-based investigative reporter George Knapp and biochemist Colm Kelleher....

Preloads for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 will go live on Steam and Rockstar Warehouse later today, Rockstar has announced. The process allows players to begin downloading and installing the game ahead of its release next Tuesday, April 14, letting them get straight into the game as soon as the clock strikes midnight. The PC version arrives after months of delays, having originally been due alongside the PS4 and Xbox One versions last November, it was later delayed to January, March and finally April....

The air date of the upcoming Halo TV series has been announced today on Twitter. We learn that it will launch on March 24 on Paramount+ bringing the adventures of Master Chief to another kind of screen. A teaser trailer for a new Dragon Quest game has been released, with more information due next month. Dragon Quest Treasures doesn’t yet have an announced platform or release date, but Erik and Mia from Dragon Quest 11 will be the lead characters. The trailer promises “two wide-eyed young heroes”, “a new world to discover”, and “one tremendous treasure hunt”. Check it out below. Hitman 3’s upcoming roguelike Freelancer mode, dubbed as the “next evolution” of the series, has slipped back into next year. Freelancer will now arrive as a free update for existing Hitman 3 owners on 26th January 2023. Before that, developer IO Interactive will run a Steam test for the mode in November - with details to follow later this month on exactly when it will start and how it will work....
