Epic has made a big decision by now removing friendly fire from Fortnite Battle Royale. Team killing is always a pain but it does make players think carefully about their actions and tactics. When it happens on purpose it can be rage inducing. Although this new friendly fire rule has been activated today, it could be reversed depending on how it affects the game. If this doesn’t work Epic will look at “other methods” to reduce team killing....

Fortnite Chapter 4 is on the horizon, and thanks to some teases by Epic Games, and an upcoming live event to kick it off with, we have some idea as to what could be in store. Throughout the latest Fortnite season, we’ve seen the island slowly being consumed by Chrome - with this phenomenon seemingly reaching a tipping point as part of the season finale. Epic Games has detailed Fortnite patch v11.40—the first update of 2020—and it brings weapon side-grading and sorts out a host of bugs in the battle royale (via Eurogamer). Regarding the bug fixes, there are a few. Players’ Star Wars achievements are back in the Legacy timeline, and players should no longer get stuck in Edit mode. Mobile versions of Fortnite will be freed of the looped Select Fire Mode screen, and improvements addressing FPS drops and hitching have been implemented....

Until Fortnite Chapter 2’s second season begins later this month, Season 1 will continue to go into overtime with new weekly challenges. This week it’s the Cameo Vs. Chic Overtime Challenges, which have been offering players a new yellow version of the Chic character skin in return for completing them. Whereas most of these are pretty straightforward, some of these call for players to head to several locations all over the map....

A new season of Fortnite means we’re fresh off another end season event with plenty of new changes to dig through. Forza Horizon 5 has made a big splash with its worldwide release just over a week ago. Most of the reactions from the media and community alike were overly-positive, but there were some complaints sprinkled into the mix. During the Federal Trade Commissions panel about video game loot boxes, a streamer management agent revealed that one publisher offered to boost loot box odds for sponsored streamers. The panel was followed by the announcement that Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo would make video game publishers reveal loot box odds. As part of the FTC panel Brittany Frassetto asked Omeed Dariani, CEO of Online Performers Group, a streamer management agency, if video game publishers often pay streamers to do loot box opening videos, if they pay for the loot boxes, and if they give the streamers better odds....

Gamescom is upon us once more, and that means it’s time to learn about upcoming games. A lot of them, if an official tweet is any indication. Like a lot of huge industry events, Gamescom will kick things off with an opening night ceremony. This one, called Opening Night Live, will be broadcast worldwide. And according to producer Geoff Keighley, it will show off 25 games during its two-hour run....

Gears 5 is quickly approaching its release and many are excited for the new direction that the series is taking, which includes new modes, a new method of storytelling, and more. This is in comparison with Gears of War 4, which played it fairly safe according to the head of Gears of War series developer The Coalition, Rod Fergusson. There’s a new Wish that awaits players in Genshin Impact this coming weekly reset. It’s the “Sparkling Steps” Wish that features Klee, Xingqiu, Sucrose, and Noelle. That sounds all well and good. After all, in Genshin Impact‘s character roster, Klee is considered one of the better ones you can recruit to your party. The problem, however, is that the promotional Wish has some fairly mediocre characters included. Genshin Impact‘s “Sparkling Steps” Wish I’ve heard only good things about Klee, so you might enjoy using her in Genshin Impact....

Ghost of Tsushima‘s developers at Sucker Punch have been very explicit about the ways the samurai films of legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa have influenced their game. The PS4 exclusive even features a “Kurosawa Mode” that allows you to apply a stylish black-and-white filter to the experience, recreating the somber mood and film grain of the director’s work. Anyone who tells a modern samurai story owes some kind of debt to Kurosawa....

Today 2K Games and Firaxis Games released a new trailer of their upcoming superhero tactical RPG Marvel’s Midnight Suns. This time around, the video itroduces another of the heroes that will be playable in the game at release, and one who definitely fits the supernatural theme, Ghost Rider. This trailer is just a brief introduction showing cutscenes and a glimpse of the hero. Incidentally, we even see him without his iconic flaming mask, identifying him as Robbie Reyes....

It may sound like a piece of ill-conceived video game fanfiction come to life, but, following a lighthearted yet thought-provoking tweet from SIE Santa Monica Studio’s creative director Cory Barlog, the internet is filled with speculation of an upcoming crossover title between the newly-revitalized God of War series and Ubisoft’s long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise. Both IPs are said to have a new game currently in the works, and there’s a slim chance that these two drastically-differing experiences could somehow collide....
