HBO will premiere its Beware the Slenderman documentary on January 23 – likely to follow at some point in the UK on Sky Atlantic.
The Slenderman meme originated in 2009, and saw several video games made based on the horror character. The original image saw the tall faceless figure following a group of children, who were said to never be seen again.
The HBO documentary focuses on the tragic events of 2014, when two young girls brutally stabbed their friend twelve times. The girls claimed that Slenderman made them do it. The film was shot over 18 months during the ongoing investigation and features interviews with the parents of the two girls.
