Grand Theft Auto V has shipped over 60 million units since launching in November 2013, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive has announced.
That means a further 6 million copies have been sold since July, shortly after which Take-Two revealed that the game had shipped 54 million. The figure accounts for the number of copies sold-in to retailers, rather than the number sold through to consumers. Actual sales figures have not been disclosed.
Only three other games have ever sold a higher number of copies than Rockstar’s open-world epic, including hit 80s puzzle game Tetris, Wii Sports and Minecraft.
GTA V launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2013 before arriving on PS4 and Xbox One one year later, and PC months after that. Take-Two described the game as having “robust sales” in its last quarter, helping the company outperform its Q3 financial expectations.
