Fans of 1999’s sci-fi racer Rollcage should immediately head over to a newly launched Kickstarter for racing game GRIP, which promises to be the spiritual successor to the popular Psygnosis series.
“Inspired by the Rollcage games of 1999 and 2000, GRIP is a new IP for a new generation,” explains the project page. “A return to the hardcore combat racer, bristling with heavy weapons and packing ferocious speed, the game is an intense, sensory feast. Harnessing the awesome potential of Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, GRIP will take you back to your nostalgic past, while simultaneously propelling you into a kick-ass future.”
A prototype has been created by a two-person team, which has been expanded to put GRIP into full production. The team at Caged Development already includes two of the original Rollcage developers.
The project is seeking $500,000 US and is planned for release on PC and PS4 towards the end of 2016, at which point other platforms will be considered, with ports anticipated to take approximately three months.
Backers will also be provided early access to the title via a pre-beta alpha, and a full beta set to take place a few months before general release.
