GAME has announced plans to open its first ever ‘eSports and competitive gaming zone’ in one of its stores.
The permanent new games space opens at GAME’s Manchester Trafford Centre store tomorrow, July 7, and invites players to compete in tournaments across a range of games, including Rocket League, Minecraft, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and more.
The retailer hopes that the space will offer “a new destination for gamers to come together to watch, play, socialise, discover and shop their favourite games”, with 10 gaming PCs and a VR pod said to be on-hand.
“For years, we’ve been dedicated to providing competitive gaming events for local gamers in our stores,” said GAME’s marketing & insight director Fred Prego. “Now, with this first of its kind space, we can take this to the next level – allowing us to deliver a regular programme of bespoke local esports competitions and social gaming events across a wide range of esports and other gaming titles, including Hearthstone, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends and Minecraft.”
“Epic” prizes are up for grabs by fans who attend, including tickets to Insomnia 58.
The arrival of the eSports Zone follows one year after GAME acquired live events company Multiplay in a deal worth £20m.
