GAME has acquired live events company Multiplay in a deal worth £20 million.
The deal will let the retailer “significantly expand” its efforts in eSports and community events, which has so far seen it host early access “lock-in” events and midnight launches across its stores.
“Like Multiplay, we put our communities at the heart of our business,” said GAME’s chief executive Martyn Gibbs. “Together we will be able to move even faster to grow and develop our services for both gamers and suppliers in the UK, Spain and around the world.
“With our combined passion and expertise, we are looking forward to delivering more, bigger and better experiences for our communities and are excited for what the future holds.”
Established in 1997, Multiplay describes itself as a “gaming services company specialising in a variety of areas of work including events services, online services, systems development, digital consultancy, esports and more”. It has held an annual gaming festival called Insomnia since 2013, with last year’s event attracting over 67,000 people.
GAME says that its presence at this year’s event will be “bigger and better” than ever before.
