The mystery Pokémon that was revealed during the recent twenty-four-hour livestream for Pokémon Sword & Shield has been confirmed as the Galarian version of Ponyta. However, the type of Ponyta is not what fans expected.
The Pokémon series introduced the concept of regional forms in Pokémon Sun & Moon, with established Pokémon having different appearances and types due to the tropical climate of the Alola region. The Galar region from Pokémon Sword & Shield is having a similar effect on Pokémon, except that the changes are based on a big injection of pure Britishness, with Galarian Weezing gaining top hats.
A mysterious pony Pokémon with a fabulous mane recently appeared during a special twenty-four-hour livestream that took place within the Glimwood Tangle forest of the Galar region. The identity of the Pokémon has now been confirmed by The Pokémon Company in a new video on YouTube. It turns out that the theories were correct and the Pokémon is the Galarian version of Ponyta. Galarian Ponyta will be exclusive to Pokémon Shield.
The official Pokémon Sword & Shield website has even more information regarding Galarian Ponyta. The initial theory regarding its type was that it was a Fairy-type Pokémon, but it turns out that Galarian Ponyta is actually a Psychic-type Pokémon. It underwent this change due to being exposed to the mystical energies of the forests in the Galar region.
Galarian Ponyta’s Ability is called Pastel Veil and it prevents both the Ponyta and its allies from being poisoned, as well as curing the poisoned status for any allied Pokémon that enter the field with the condition.
The question that a lot of fans are now asking themselves is what Galarian Rapidash will look like. It’s also possible that the line will receive a third-stage evolution, as that has already happened with the Galarian version of the Zigzagoon line.
Pokémon Sword & Shield will be released for the Nintendo Switch on November 15, 2019.
