A French media company decided to start its own Twitch channel but then got banned for dropping in N-bomb in the first five minutes.

While American companies are still desperately trying to hold on to the traditional media content model of cable television and movies, other countries are embracing the new age of digital media. France is one such country where media companies are looking at Twitch and seeing an opportunity rather than a rival.

Webedia already owns a French Twitch channel called “lestream” (or “the stream” if you pull the two words apart) and wanted to continue their expansion on the platform with a new channel called “leLIVE.” This channel would be dedicated to more live-streamed content, including live interviews and skits, and would be “intended for young people and mainly for Millennials.”

It would also feature a cast of rotating hosts from French television, including Agathe Auproux, Michel Cymes, and comedian Kevin Razy.

To put it mildly, the launch of leLIVE did not go well. Within the first five minutes of the channel’s launch, Razy uttered the phrase “YouTube money, n——.” Four hours later, Twitch banned leLIVE for the racist epithet.

That wasn’t the only controversy that struck during leLIVE’s launch. Technical difficulties also caused an audio delay of several seconds, while Razy’s requests for audience participation also didn’t go over well in the channel’s chat.

To top it off, someone stole leLIVE’s Twitch channel after it was banned and is now demanding that Webmedia pay 5000 Euros for them to get it back.

French media reports that the channel was poorly received overall, so it’s unknown if they’ll even bother getting it back on Twitch. LeLIVE will broadcast again at 5 PM local time tonight on its website and other streaming platforms.
