One of the most popular and most talked about games out there today seems to be Fortnite. It has been around since July 2017, but for some reason it has just started to explode in popularity. The best part about this game, no doubt about it, is that right now it is free to play. That’s right, you can get in all the action and join in on the conversation without having to pay a single penny. Fortnite is a co-op survival game with a few different modes, that it is different and exciting each time you play. The game starts off with 100 players who are all dropped down to earth by a flying bus, once they reach the ground they can begin to search buildings and land for various loot and loot boxes that contain items that are sure to help them survive. The last player standing at the end is, of course, the winner. To make things even more interesting, every couple of minutes there is a storm that moves in, and if you are not inside of the circle the storm will be sure to consume you and you will die before you have even had the chance to really play.

This game is jam-packed with tons of cool weapons and items that help you to survive. There are so many weapons and weapon categories, that it can sometimes to be hard to know which ones are worth taking and which ones you might as well leave behind for someone else. Some weapons have poor accuracy and a low damage rate, while others could blow your enemy away with one hit. Then there are the other items such as, bandages, launch pads, bushes, and campfires, just to name a few. To help you figure out which of these items are most likely to help you score a win, we have compiled a list containing 15 of the games best items and 15 of the worst.

30 Best: The Traps

One of the best items to have in your supply when playing Fortnite, is no doubt, the traps. These traps can be applied to the floor, ceiling, and wall of any building and are perfect for entry points into various homes and forts. Whether you are getting toward the end of the game and need a way to secure the bottom of your fort, or if you just to secure the entry points to a house for you to hold up in until the storm starts moving in on you, traps a fantastic device to assure that enemies get what’s coming to them when they enter.

These are typically best placed on the ceiling, where other players will not notice them, until it is too late.

The trap is a must have, and the good news is that it doesn’t even take up any space in your items storage, instead, it goes right alongside your building materials. So, don’t worry if you stumble across on, but don’t want to get rid of anything in your inventory because there is no need to with these.

29 Worst: Minigun

Some people might try to argue this one and say that the mini gun is the mother of all guns in Fortnite, but that would be a bit of a reach, if you ask us. Sure, the minigun is one of the most powerful guns in the game, but by the time you are able to use it, you will probably be dead anyways. This gun is very hard to come across and only comes in rare, so when you find one, it is kind of like coming across a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

So, what is so terrible about this gun?

Well, it takes a long time to start shooting, so if you are spot on when you do start shooting, then yes you will totally obliterate anyone that you are shooting at. However, since it does take a long time to start shooting, you will probably have died before you get the chance to start hitting your enemy, making this one of the worst items in the game.

28 Best: M16 Assault Rifle - Legendary

If you want a gun that is easy to get your hands on, has great accuracy, and decent damage, then the M16 Assault Rifle is the way to go. You don’t just want any old M16 though, the standard one, for example, won’t get you the accuracy that you want. When picking up this item you want to be sure that you are getting a legendary one, although the rare one will can be somewhat just as effective.

While this gun may not be the best for long distances, it is perfect for short to mid-range engagements, and is the perfect weapon to have in your arsenal when you are having a shoot-out with someone who snuck up on you. Make your enemies regret entering into a battle with you by whipping out this bad boy with a gun and rack up those kills! This is a must have weapon.

27 Worst: Boogie Bomb

The creators seemed to have wanted to lighten things up a bit when they created this next item. I mean shooting and trying to survive is fun and all, but throw some dancing into the mix and you have a game that is sure to succeed. Well, at least that’s what the creators must have been thinking, us players, on the other hand, wish that the boogie bomb had never been invented. Why bother throwing a bomb at an opponent if it isn’t even going to end them or damage their health? Well, that is exactly how things go with these boogie bombs, you throw them at other players and if you hit directly hit them, they will start dancing for a few short seconds. This is only good if you are super fast at attacking them and have a decent and powerful weapon, but even then, why bother when you could just throw a grenade at them instead?

26 Best: Pump Shotgun

If you have ever played Fortnite, then you know just how good of a gun the Pump Shotgun can be. This gun is so powerful that if you get a direct hit it can deal up to 95 damage, which is almost a one hit KO. This is the perfect gun to have for close range shoot-outs and the only downside seems to be that it has a slightly slower fire rate and a bit of a lengthy reload time.

This is usually no problem at all, however, considering the fact that if you can hit your enemy at least once they will more than likely be dead.

The damage power of this gun makes your odds of winning the game significantly higher than they would be if you were playing with a less powerful gun, like the pistol. All of these things put together make the pump shotgun the gun to go for when searching for loot, which is actually pretty easy because it is one of the more commonly found items.

25 Worst: Grenade Launcher - Of Any Kind

A grenade launcher might seem like the perfect item to have for taking down enemy forts and ending people from afar, but it is actually the last weapon that you want on hand. Sure, it can be helpful in the end when the circle is super small and everyone is confined into one small space (if you can make it that far), but this weapon leaves a lot to be desired. Not only does it immediately alert people to your location, but it has almost no range whatsoever and it is actually worse than a rocket launcher. So, you better stay well hidden if you do decide to use this sad excuse of a weapon, because people will be able to spot you pretty easily and the odds are that their guns will end you way faster than that grenade launcher would them. This is by far one of the worst weapons to get your hands on, so make sure that you can find other, more efficient ones as well.

24 Best: Launch Pad

The launch pad is a not so common item that doesn’t quite get the recognition that it should. It is a pad that you set down on the ground in front of you and it usually has a few jumps on it before disappearing. After placing the launch pad on the ground, you simply jump on top of it and it launches you into the air, shortly after that your glider will deploy allowing you better control over where you end up. Of course, it does nothing in the way of helping you eliminate other players, but it is a great item to have if you are the type of person that likes to stay close to the edge of the circle just waiting for the storm to roll in. This item not only helps you quickly escape the storm, but it can also be of great assistance when being fired at, and it provides faster travel if you have a certain place that you wanted to check out.

23 Worst: Pistol

If there is any gun that you want to avoid at all costs in this game, then it is definitely going to be the pistol, no matter how easy it is to come across. This gun, in most forms, barely does any damage to enemies at all and is easily one of the least effective weapons that there is. This weapon comes in common, uncommon, and even rare, but in all forms, it has a low damage rate, can be tough to aim, and has absolutely no range to it whatsoever. We would like to say that this one is a matter of personal preference, but it turns out that most people who play this game like to avoid the pistol at all costs because it usually just ends up being a total waste of space in their inventory. So, if you want something that is going to be effective and deal a good amount of damage, then this is not the gun for you.

22 Best: Bush

Not everyone would agree on this next item, as some people see it as a stupid way to hide without really playing the game, but this item has a lot of potential and is something that could certainly win you the game. These bushes are typically obtained from a loot box, but they are very rare and hard to come across. To use the bush you apply it just like you would a bandage and it wraps a bush around you, camouflaging you to look exactly like the surrounding bushes.

Although this might seem like a pointless thing to have it is perfect for toward the end of the game when things start getting intense.

All you have to do is find another bush and crouch down into it, this will leave you totally unnoticeable to the people around you, so you can just sit back and relax while everyone else is ending each other. Then, when it comes down to you and one other person, they will have no idea where you are, giving you the perfect opportunity to strike and land that win.

21 Worst: M16 - Standard

This next one might be a little confusing because we already talked about the M16, but the M16 that we talked about earlier was the legendary one. The M16, in its standard form, is the absolute least effective assault rifle in the game. If this is the only weapon that you were able to get your hands on, then you better hope that you are going up against someone who either has a basic pistol, or nothing but their pickaxe. This gun, of course, is better than no gun at all but it should be your last choice and should never be your only weapon.

That being said, it is still better than having a pistol, everyone knows how terrible those are.

Of course, some people might still consider this gun as fine, it really all does come down to personal preference, but it definitely does not stack up next to some other weapons offered in this game.

20 Best: The Chug Jug

In Fortnite there are various potions to give you a shield that helps protect you a little, think of it as a little extra health. There are numerous sizes when it comes to these potions, the biggest one being The Chug Jug. The Chug Jug offers its users, not only a maximum shield, but maximum health as well. It is indeed the best potion to have, but there is one big downside to it, the downside would be that it takes a total of 15 seconds to consume. This can leave its users exposed to open fire, but don’t fret, because if you can find a good spot to camp out in while you consume this potion then you are in the clear. Of course consuming any size potion in this game is good, and a small one is better than none at all, but if we had to choose the best possible potion to get it would be this one without a doubt. It is after all basically a potion and med kit all in one.

19 Worst: Revolver

There are two guns that seem to be battling it out for the worst gun in the game and those would be the pistol and the revolver. The revolver comes in common, uncommon, and rare, making it a super easy find, and it does have a higher damage than the pistol does, but it still ranks as one of the worst items in the game.

This is mainly because of its low damage and the fact that it only works at a very close range.

Odds are that you will see a lot of these guns lying around throughout the game, and that is usually because people never bother picking them up because they know that they can find something better with little to no effort at all. This is something that the creators could probably just do away with altogether, because let’s be honest, no one uses these things.

18 Best: Med Kits

There are a large number of things that can slowly eat away at your health in this game, such as getting stuck in the storm or falling from a high distance, and it would be horrible if there was no way to repair your health from them, which is why the creators of the game threw in bandages and med kits.

Bandages are okay, they get the job done, they just get it done slowly and it takes a lot more of them to get full health.

The med kit however is much more powerful, it offers the people who use it 100 percent health, so it is easy to see why you would want this in your inventory. You would be much better off to stock up on a few of these than a bunch of bandages because it only takes one to totally heal you as opposed to the three bandages that it would take just to get back to 75 percent health.

17 Worst: Smoke Grenade

When it comes to grenades in this game there are a few different options to choose from, but one of the least effective ones that there is, is the smoke grenade. The smoke grenade is essentially a grenade that you throw towards your enemies and that it explodes into a huge thick cloud of smoke, making it impossible for them to see. Now, this could be useful in squad mode, and it certainly does disorient the enemy in terms of where they are and where you went, but it also causes you to lose sight of your enemy. Don’t forget to make sure that you are a good distance away from where you throw this smoke grenade, because you want to be able to keep your line of vision open. Which would be impossible if you accidentally throw it right in front of where you are, and be sure to never walk inside of the smoke, you will be leaving yourself vulnerable to getting shot.

16 Best: Cozy Campfire

Another rare and unusual item to come across in this game would be the cozy campfire, there are a lot of people out there who hate having these in their inventory, but those are mainly people playing in the solo mode. If you are, however, playing in squads the cozy campfire can be extremely helpful. It only lasts 25 seconds, which might not seem like a very long time, but in that 25 seconds, it offers two health points per second to all nearby players. Offering you and all of your teammates a maximum of 50 health points per campfire. There is, however, a slight downside to this gem of an item, and it might be pretty obvious because where there is fire, there is smoke. This means that it could possibly alert other players of your location, which could make all of that health it just gave you, useless.

15 Worst: Submachine Gun

The submachine can be a relatively handy weapon to have at certain times in the game, but it is also one of the harder weapons to use and definitely is not for a beginner. The standard version of this gun is a lot weaker than its other versions, but it still manages to do better than those pesky little pistols. There really is no range on this gun whatsoever and it is almost impossible to aim with it.

It is also incredibly hard to move around when shooting this weapon, which is why it can be so hard to use.

Of course, it can deal a great amount of damage, that is if you are to hit your target. So, all in all, this is not the absolute worst gun to have, since as long as you know how to use it, it will do just fine, but it also isn’t anywhere near the best one to have in the game either.

14 Best: Scar - Legendary

The Legendary version of the Scar seems to be everyone’s favorite Fortnite weapon, and this is mainly due to its large scope, making it obviously perfect for long distances. This gun might not be the best in terms of damage, only giving 36 damage with direct hits, but it is the best possible gun to have for long distances. This means you can go ahead and build yourself a fort high up in the sky and pick people off one by one, as long as the fort does not get shot down, or you can sit on top of a hill and end people from afar.

Either way, this gun is one that is sure to rack up your tally and is great at the end of the game when everyone starts hiding out in their own little forts.

The Legendary Scar might not be the easiest item in the game to find, but when you do find it you won’t want to let it go.

13 Worst: Frag Grenade

We have discussed just how many options there are in this game when it comes to grenades and bombs, one of those options is a frag grenade. These can be useful occasionally, mainly if you are able to get a direct hit on your enemy, and they do not move before it goes off. These grenades, however, are not very strong at all, and they do not deal much more damage than a pistol would, so it would probably take a few of these to take down another player. At this point, you might as well just get yourself a grenade launcher, but even then your likeliness of surviving are slim, if these are your only options in the middle of a fight with someone else. We have found that most people just try to avoid picking up the grenades in this game at all costs, simply because an assault rifle would reach farther and deal more damage in the end.

12 Best: Stone/Brick

When it comes to building in this game there are three different materials that you can harvest to use for building. These three materials are, Wood, Brick, and Steel. Obviously out of the three, steel would be the strongest and most durable material to have when it comes to building a fort, but it is not nearly as easy to come by as brick, and not even close to how easy is it to find wood. If you want something that is durable, strong, and easy to find, brick is going to be your go-to material.

Brick is found everywhere in the game, and in just about every building that you explore, even the wooden buildings.

Obviously brick is much stronger than wood, it makes for a great foundation for building a strong and sturdy fort, and it is certainly a must-have. Of course, if you land in a place like the flush factory, then steel is what you wanna get.

11 Worst: Slurp Juice

Here we have ourselves another potion option, it is called the slurp juice, and it only offers its users a maximum of 25 health points per use. When combined with bandages, this can be more effective, and it may not be the worst option in terms of a shield potion, but it is better than having nothing at all. So with that being said, if this is the only thing that you can find for a shield, then you should definitely consume it. If you do consume this, you can drink another shield potion of a different size as well (if you are able to find one) in order to get a maximum shield. With all of this in mind, just know that there are other options out there for a shield potion, but you should never turn one down, no matter what size it might be, because it can come in handy later on in the game.
